Acting Local
Art Apart
When the quarantine suddenly descended on the country, we needed more than ever community and art. Those of us who were sheltering in place, confined to our homes and a narrower way of living in the world, were craving contact, interaction and connection. Since galleries and museums were closed, why not bring the art outside? Constraints weren’t going to limit our creativity.
The Petaluma Arts Center invited all community members to create and share work on front yards, lawns and windows. All mediums were welcome: 2D, 3D, mixed-media, found objects, whatever. Everyone who lived within the city limits were invited to participate in Art Apart and be added to the map.
