Photographer

I am a storyteller whose aim is to capture authentic moments through the art of documentary photography.  With over 20 years of experience creating images that express the essence of people and moments, I strive to approach each subject with freshness and create images that capture and celebrate life in whatever form.

Why am I Involved?

In March I began to document the shelter-in-place and soon joined forces with two other local storytellers, photographer Matt Sharkey and audio creator Andy Sewell to collaborate on capturing these times with Sharkey documenting in film and Andy recording interviews and sounds of the protests.

My motivation to document the present in this community, as I have in the past decades in both Petaluma and San Francisco, comes from a need to learn and observe what is happening around me and consider its relation to the bigger story. Many of these images come from the collaboration with Sharkey and Andy and each seeks to express the humanity and honesty of the subjects during the shelter-in-place and Black Lives Matter experience.

During these past months I have come to appreciate that we as a community are stronger together when we give space for today’s youth to express their voice and leadership, as is the case with Lillian McCoy and others like her who seek to help educate and create change. We are in unprecedented times and as a photographer, I feel the need to be more awake to what can be captured of a moment in which we are living…
