You: Portraits Event
On October 3rd, 2020, exactly one month before the election, the Petaluma Arts Center hosted the photoshoot and audio recording of ‘You: Portraits of the Most Powerful Nonviolent Tool We Have’.
This collection of portraits and exhibition is inspired by John Lewis and his quote
“The vote is the most important nonviolent tool we have”
The Arts Center invited the community to participate in a socially distanced drop-in experience. And through portrait photographer Michael Woolsey's lens all were encouraged to express their feelings at this critical moment about the importance of your vote and of voting.
Participants were asked to bring their own t-shirt and create or purchase a VOTE shirt onsite as well as to bring an artwork if they choose.
Local audio artist Andy Sewell interviewed participants on what voting means to them and the recorded audio is matched with the images available as 'audio-grams' on Instagram @audioephemera and here at audioephemera.com/vote
The photos are available to download on SmugMug
Get Out And Vote artworks were on view and postcards, posters and lawn signs were sold.
